Chapter Nine
Riya
I couldnât sleep at all. Iâd moved around so much both Jonovan and Stefan rolled over away from me during the night. The one good thing about that was it allowed me to slip out of bed unnoticed. Down the hall I went with Titus alongside me. âLetâs see whatâs on TV,â I said to him as we curled up on the couch. Stefan was used to my nights of challenged sleep and turning on random shows to watch until my brain settled down, but I didnât want to bother Jonovan. Heâd been so nice to us that the last thing I wanted to do was upset him. This was only our second night sleeping here and I was thankful Iâd not had any nightmares. Yet. Tomorrow, well, there was no way it wasnât going to suck but I hoped it didnât cause one.
An old black and white comedy show was on. This woman and her co-worker worked on a conveyor belt sorting chocolate candy. Somehow, it sped up and she couldnât keep up with it and so she started eating some and shoving other chocolates down her work top. I didnât quite understand how it got so out of control, but it was funny to see where sheâd try and stuff the pieces next. One episode led to another and before I knew it, I was out but somehow I woke up in Jonovanâs bed in the morning.
âGood morning,â I mumbled, wiping the sleep from my eyes as I entered the kitchen.
âGood morning, Kitten,â Jonovan greeted me with a kiss.
âWhereâs Stefan?â I grabbed a mug from the cupboard and poured a cup of coffee, and deeply inhaled my favorite morning scent.
âOut back with Titus,â Jonovan replied as he flipped the pancakes. âHungry?â
âMeh.â Wasnât much of a reply but with my stomach in knots I wasnât sure eating was the best thing for it.
âRiya, you need something on your stomach. Sweetheart,â Jonovan said as he wrapped an arm around my waist and pulled me to him. âI know youâre nervous, but Stefan and I will be right there beside you.â
He had zero idea what level my nerves were at and I was afraid heâd see me as not worthy of him after today killed me. Jonovan had been nothing but wonderful to us, but would he be able to deal withâ¦I shuddered. The fear was real, and the reality of my truth may very well end the dreamland Stefan and I currently enjoyed. Maybe theyâd be better off without me, happier as a normal couple instead of a throple. It took all I had not to burst into tears, Iâd wasted far too much time crying lately. Iâd always been an emotional wreck and wouldnât be surprised if I was once again kicked to the curb after all this was over.
âWhatever youâre thinking, Riya,â Stefanâs voice came from behind me. âErase it.â
âKitten?â Jonovan asked as he pulled back. âWhatâs going on?â
I couldnât speak my worst fears alive. âLet me guess,â Stefan began.
